I got my name honeytongue from a film titled ORI by Muyiwa Ademola……….HONEYTONGUE.




Q. What is your name sir?

R. My name is Temitope Somoye and my stage name is Honeytongue.

Q. What native are you?

R. Ogun state in Nigeria.

Q. Date of birth?

R. Feb 15th 198*

Q. Your religion sir?

R. Christian

Q. They called u honey tongue, how do you come about such name?

R. Honeytongue is a name I researched out myself when I was about going into standup comedy in 2005. I needed a unique name amongst other nicknames I had while in school. I watched a movie Ori by muyiwa Ademola in 2004 and amongst the subtitles, I saw “honeytongue” and I love it and decided to use it. I sampled it amongst people to see if they like the name and almost everyone loved it. Since then the name stuck and it became part of my identity.

Q. Tell us about your profession (Comedian)?

R. Its challenging and interesting. You can only thrive in this comedy industry if you have the grace and the skill set needed. Until you are popular and prove yourself to be yourself to be real, there are some jobs that people are not ready to give to you.

Q. Like what jobs?

R. Some top corporate jobs….And highly paid events!

Q. Tell us about your Education background?

R. I had a degree in Agronomy Department at Ladoke Akintola University of technology. Its an agricultural Course. I had my secondary school in 3 different schools, first was Command Secondary School Ipaja lagos, Ejigbo high School and the final one was Topmost int’l College. All in lagos. I had my Primary School in Effortwill Nur/Pry School, Ejigbo Lagos.

Q. What is your Position in the family?

R. 3rd (the middle born) amongst five children, 4 boys and 1 girl which is the last born.

Q. What year precisely do you started comedy as a profession?

R. January 21 2005.

Q.  Are you married?

R- No, am not married

Q. Are you into any relationship?

R- Yes I am.

Q. How do you cope with your fans especially ladies?

R- (sigh) That’s a serious one….well it has been God because of a truth the ladies are often more supportive in showbiz, but some will often times want to take such friendship to another level (smile) but I make them understand that am in a serious relationship and besides I cant date two people at the same time. Some are understanding while some are stubborn. But its been God granting me the wisdom needed to scale through it all.

Q. Tell us about heartrob?

R- Am sorry I cant talk about her yet. All I can say is that she is a wonderful woman who fears God and very hardworking.

Q. where are you going to be in 5 years time?

R- 5 years time.... (sigh) want to be amongst the top entertainers in Nigeria and also a very big entrepreneur with lots of business in and outside the country.

Q. Who is your role model?

R- To be candid I have lots of people I learn from ( rolling eyes) Okey bakassi, Basketmonth, I go dye, Ali baba, Bovi, Seyilaw…..Amongst many others.  I try as much as possible to learn from every good comedian I come across. And on the foreign scene, Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle amongst other comedians also inspire me.

Q. Most embarrassing moment as a comedian and life?

R – Have not had an embarrassing moment, have only had time that I didn’t believe in myself.

Q. What advice can you give to the upcoming comedians?

R- They should look up to God for divine open doors and work on themselves well so as to improve and sharpen their skill.

Q. Most happiest moment?

R- Happiest time was when I had a hall filled with over 1000 people for my comedy show while in school.
